JUDr. Roman Fiala – Vice-President of the Supreme Court

He was appointed as the Vice-President of the Supreme Court by the President of the Czech Republic on 1 January 2011.

From 1987 he worked at the Municipal Court in Brno and in 1989 he became a judge of the Court. In 1993 he started working at the Regional Court in Brno and during the years 2001 to 2002 he was its Vice-President. He has been working as a judge of the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic since 2002. In 2003, he was appointed the President of a Chamber of the Civil and Commercial Division. He was also appointed a judge of the Special Chamber for Competence Disputes in 2003.

He gives lectures to judges and notaries. As an external lecturer he teaches at the faculties of law of the Charles University in Prague and the Masaryk University in Brno.

He is a member of the editorial board of the expert journals “Soudní judikatura z oblasti občanského, obchodního a pracovního práva” and “Ad Notam”.

He is a member of the Academic Council of the Charles University and the Academic Council of the Faculty of Law of the Charles University. He is also the Head of the Commission for the re-codification of the Czech civil procedural law. He was awarded the prize Lawyer of the Year in the field of civil law in 2015. He is not affiliated with any political party.
