The Supreme Court of the Czech Republic seated in Brno is the highest judicial authority both in civil and criminal matters except for issues dealt with by the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic and the Supreme Administrative Court.
The International Conference "Supreme Courts in Changing Times" will take place in Brno and Bratislava from 5 to 7 November 2018
The Supreme Courts of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic will jointly organise, on the occasion of 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court of the Czechoslovak Republic, the international conference "Supreme Courts in Changing Times" from 5 to 7 November 2018. The aim of the conference will be, in particular, the question of the supreme courts’ status in the past and today‘s modern Europe. A retrospective view may reveal much about the anticipated future development of the highest institutions of the ordinary judiciary. Among the main speakers will be Lord Jonathan Mance, the former Vice-President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom; Mr Jean-Claude Wiwinius, the President of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court of Luxembourg and Mr Pavel Šámal, the President of the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic.
