The Supreme Court is a member of several international associations which enable it to be actively involved in cooperation with European dimension. Among the most important of these are the Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union, the Judicial Network of the European Union, and the Superior Courts Network.
Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union
The Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union aims at closer cooperation between highest courts and exchange of views and experience in judicial practice. To promote training in the judiciary, the Network also participates in an exchange traineeship programme supported by the European Judicial Training Network. The Network also provides a forum through which the European institutions can seek the views of the highest judicial institutions on many of their activities.
The Network of Presidents also established the Comparative Law Liaisons Group, which brings together lawyers from supreme courts of Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovenia and the United Kingdom. Its aim is to facilitate the exchange of information on legislation and case law on issues which are the subject of a decision-making activities of respective supreme court belonging to this Group.
Judicial Network of the European Union
The Judicial Network of the European Union was created on the initiative of the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union and presidents of supreme and constitutional courts of the Member States. The primary objective of the Network is to facilitate access to information and documents between the courts of the European Union. For this purpose, an Internet interface has been created to reflect the efforts to strengthen judicial cooperation by supporting a deeper dialogue in preliminary ruling proceedings, disseminating national decisions of relevance to the Union and strengthening mutual knowledge of the law and legal systems of the Member States.
Superior Courts Network
The Superior Courts Network plays an important role in the cooperation between the European Court of Human Rights and the highest national courts. The Network was set up for the purpose of effective exchange of information.
European Association of Labour Court Judges
The European Association of Labour Court Judges is an independent association of judges who adjudicate employment law cases. The association organises annual professional conferences to exchange information and experience.
European Law Institute
The European Law Institute is an independent, non-profit organisation whose main activity is to conduct research, draft advisory opinions, and other professional activities in the field of European law. The Institute's activities are carried out in all branches of law, with topics selected primarily with respect to practical application by the courts and legislative bodies.
